something that really resonated with me during the Barbie movie is that Barbie didn’t want to hurt kens feelings when ken was the one who installed patriarchy, stole her house, and brainwashed all of her friends. yet she was so afraid of being seen as rude by turning down a man and simply telling him no.
this happens to women all the time, they are afraid of being seen as a bitch or an asshole by just simply trying to protect themselves. she shouldn’t have to feel bad for doing what’s right.
Men will literally become horse girls and invent sexism and patriarchy instead of going to therapy
Barbie had two messages.
Number 1: don’t be his long term long distance low commitment casual girlfriend.
Number 2: don’t wear heels because your foot is shaped like that.
I find the fact that the Barbie movie is simultaneously being criticized by the right as “too radical”, and criticized by the left as “too nice to men” and/or “too pandering”, quite funny, given that America’s WHOLE SPEECH was about how, no matter what women (like the director of the Barbie movie) do, it will simultaneously always be too little and too much.
Did a Barbenheimer viewing with my friend tonight in cosplay as Barbie and Oppenheimer! Drawings are referenced from photos of us in the theater! :D
